Gout's Relationship with Diabetes & Sugar

How is my big toe related to my heart? SUGAR. If you think gout is just an unfair curse, then let’s explore its true origin – dietary sugar. We used to believe that gout was simply from eating “rich foods” but that wouldn't explain why its occurrence has skyrocketed over the past 4 decades right alongside type 2 diabetes and heart disease. We need to uncover the WHY. High fructose corn syrup was introduced in 1970 and consumption of this sweet toxin increased more than 1000% between 1970 and 1990. This rise directly mirrors the rise in obesity in the US and the rise in diabetes.

What does this have to do with gout?  Fructose is a strong driver of excess uric acid production which directly creates gout. The uric acid produced directly reduces our cell’s ability to generate energy. Fructose turns into uric acid which then shuts down the valuable AMP-Kinase mechanism within your cells. As you damage AMP-Kinase the cell becomes sluggish and inefficient. Gout medications that block uric acid production also stimulate this AMP-Kinase thus help to reverse diabetes and heart disease risk. How about that! A drug that actually works to restore cellular health – this is uncommon.

Please don’t miss the obvious truth here. Fructose is not healthy because it is a toxin made from genetically modified corn. It depletes the liver of glutathione thus opening you to greater toxicity as you struggle to clear toxins. Fructose drives appetite leading you to eat more. Fructose turns into uric acid that damages cell efficiency leading to diabetes which is the first step towards heart disease. In fact, studies show that if we simply track uric acid in blood tests that it can predict who is at risk for diabetes.

Best solution? Say it with me now – AVOID sugar, fructose, and high fructose corn syrup. Sugar is 50% fructose. Sugar and fructose lead to obesity, diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimers, cancer, achy joints, shortened life span, and GOUT. If you have been diagnosed with gout, then know that it is 100% reversible with a change in lifestyle and diet. If you think your gout is due to a genetic variant, then get those genes tested but don't accept a lazy answer that your gout is simply due to your genes. “But my dad and uncle had gout.” Did they eat sugar and fructose?
