Changing Habits - Reinventing Myself   Part 4

Fine Tuning

Being defined by a vision of the future is a great reason to wake up in the morning. In fact, that first 3 minutes in the morning represents the best portal into your psyche. Those first few moments when you first awaken your brain is still in “alpha” mode which a state in which the brain is relaxed and open to receive new ideas and suggestions. Our normal daily active brain wave is beta and it is far less open to suggestion or new ideas.

Before you start your day, as you lie in bed – “tame the animal within”

  • What is the greatest expression of myself I can be today? Start by targeting the past.
    • Write down 2 past thoughts that are NOT going to slip by my awareness
      • Ex:  Being judgmental of people.  Finding fault or being critical.  Labeling someone as stupid or incompetent. Feeling self-critical or depressed.
      • I deserve a treat or reward. I have suffered and need pampering.
    • What are 2 past behaviors I want to change today. Let me stay conscious ALL DAY
      • Ex: Feeling rushed or behind.  Treating life like it is an “emergency”.
    Focused on small things rather than the larger more significant things.
    • What are 2 past emotions that I refuse to engage.   Don't go unconscious.
      • Ex: Frustration, anger, envy, impatience, feeling overwhelmed, needy.

Tailor your responses here to whatever it is that you are desiring to change. Now fill in your present and future beliefs and actions that you intend on replacing those with.

  • 2 thoughts I will keep on the front of my mind today:
    • I will keep joy and serenity at the forefront of my thoughts.
    • This very moment is the present and it is all I have. The now.
  • 2 behaviors I will keep central and engage all day to day
    • Touch my hand to my chest to remind me to stay centered in peace.
    • Belly breathing to calm my body. Stay alert to my breathing – slow & steady.
  • 2 emotions that I will foster and enjoy all day long.
    • I will keep joy and serenity actively in my heart all day regardless of what life throws at me.
    • I believe that love and compassion are stronger than any ill intent.

Keep these two short lists on a small card that you carry in your pocket or on a small file on your phone. Keep it handy and revisit it multiple times per day. Keep it on your nightstand so you review it before bed and the first thing in the morning while you are in alpha brain waves.  You are actively installing these ideas and that takes repetition and belief.

A busy brain will not accept new ideas so these 2 tools listed above will serve you well. We need to quiet our mind. Alpha and theta waves are slower, calmer, and represent the state in which our brain is most receptive to new ideas, change, and new programs.

Get up every day inspired by your new mission. Review and rehearse your ideas, your actions and BELIEFS until it is REAL. Practice. Be kind to yourself and don’t expect perfection but hold optimism that your energies will pay rich dividends. Refuse to allow any person, any circumstance or anything in your life to remove you from your vision and mission. FEEL it. Then simply walk into it and BE it.

Keep evolving your experience. Be willing to explore what you don’t know or what the universe has to offer that you were previously unaware of.  Choose to be happy by choosing to know yourself and create a better version of yourself. Love yourself and love everyone around you at all times. This is a life worth living.
